Winner of the Public Vote Grand Prize for most visitor interaction at ArtPrize 2021.
Before You Go is a traveling public art installation built into a retired phone booth, aimed at sharing our collective stories, hopes and dreams.
The piece creates a moment to reflect on who we are, who we’ve been and who we want to be; all while quietly encouraging us to as the same of those we love.
100 interviews (and counting!) With people ages 30-105 from across the U.S. form the basis of the audio library within the booth. The project hopes to include a diverse set of voices, from all generations and walks of life. New recordings are added between each stop using recordings collected from our web app, phoneline and the booth itself.
9 Channels/Categories Highlight the various themes Before You Go explores including questions about life, death, wishes, dreams and regrets. Each channel can either be listened to or added to by recording a response to a question on our web app, phoneline and/or within the booth.
350+ Audio Clips Are programmed onto the phone in the booth. Each selection plays a random clip from the library - providing a unique experience for each visitor. New clips are collected at every stop, creating an ever evolving experience, adding stories across the country.
